R.I.P COMMON SENSE
R.I.P.
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, as his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn’t always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To blame and I’m A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not join the majority and do nothing.

Well there you have it. We have always had the triangle of reason & discipline. Police, Families & Teachers. The right stuff was taught on 3 fronts and nowadays it seems in some places that it simply isn’t done. Yet almost everyone knows the difference between right and wrong but choose to dress it up in a million different costumes. What is reasonable, fair and decent (with the usual dose of common sense involved) seems to be out the window. No matter what happens itis always someone elses fault, always laying the blame elsewhere. Blame gets confused with responsibility and this is where the problem lies with society in general, too many blaming and too many not accepting responsibility for their actions. Pity it can’t be measured or crimed (not yet anyway). That would boost detections.

Always worth a repeat!

Hmmm…
It would have been better to have given credit to your source, else it looks as if you are an unrepentant plagiarist.

George we all use words used by others, I didn’t think anyone would think I was capable of such wit.

wow, this is a fantastic blog.
Every word is true.
we have lost our “common sense” haven’t we?

I don’t care what the source is, it is a message that needs repeating. This county is going down the pan. The sooner people understand that the Politically Correct ‘numpties’ running this country need changing the sooner we can start to rebuild society. It needs to start at home, school and then us as a last resort.

Just goes to show that most people will not take responsibility for their own actions. It is always someone else’s fault, hopefully someone with deep pockets so I can get a big payout with the apology I so obviously deserve!
How dare the teacher make me write on the blackboard (sorry chalkboard) 100 times “I must not talk in class”? After all I was only talking!!!
How dare the police officer cuff me around the ear for stealing old man Petersons apples from his orchard? And then have the nerve to tell my father what I did? (Resulting in a cuff to the other unaffected ear) I was only stealing!
How dare the Local Council remove my great grandfathers headstone at the local cemetery, “just In case” it falls on someone “playing” around in the cemetery.
How dare the same council lock the gates to the Playground, just in case someone falls off the slide or swings? After all the local Kids not drinking or doing drugs (yet) can play on the Major A-Road, the cars will slow down for them.
The whole world has gone friggin Barmy since common sense let us at a time we most needed him as a guiding light to the youth of today!

Well observed. But it doesnt help when a civilian relies on the law and the police will do nothing to investigate a crime where there is plenty of evidence, and it also meets cps requirements, purely because they want to protect big business. And if they dont bother to investigate because it will open up a can of worms across the country with similar complaints, what does that say about the relationship between the public and the police?
February 25, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Anonymous you could give an example, although I don’t know any Police officers who are in the business of protecting a big business in favour of a genuine victim of crime.
One persons idea of plenty of evidence is not always the actual evidence required to prosecute.

Law is the rule of this land. Law courts administer our Law. Justice is in the hands of our juries administered by our judges in a court of Law. Therefor hang the Lawyers first, shoot any Polititian left and get back to civil responsibility or get your arse kicked in a way to discourage any further Antisocial Behavior.
If not apply for an ASBO?
