A QUICK MOAN ABOUT THE COURTS

Officers in my force have been using a common sense approach when dealing with offenders who are wanted on warrant!!
Don’t worry this has quickly been addressed by the courts and subsequently one of the civilian snotty email senders who are obviously shocked by this display of innovative thinking.
Now it’s like this. Someone fails to appear at court on the day of their hearing and the COURT issue a warrant for the said offenders arrest.
The warrant orders that a constable will arrest the offender and bring them before the court to be dealt with (slapped on the wrist if the truth is known), this should be executed and dealt with EXPEDITIOUSLY!!
Anyway some officers have been executing warrants and following the instructions of the warrant diligently and taking offenders directly to court without passing go so to speak or more accurately the Police cells. This is what we would call being dealt with EXPEDITIOUSLY.
This has provoked the courts into making complaints against police. I know I thought they were on our side too, well everyone else is making complaints and I guess they felt left out.

As a result an email was circulated that stated :-

Taking prisoners directly to court is ONLY of benefit to the Police!! the courts and CPS gain nothing!!
Well excuse us for thinking we are partners!!!!!!!!!!

This made me particularly angry as I know that the court could easily have just refused to take the prisoner and the officers would have taken him or her back to the Police cells, but the court have been accepting them and them making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Not only are we fighting the criminals, but we are now fighting the courts!!!
What next guys?

Unfortunately some of our warrnats dont get executed until saturday afternoons and when caught the unfortunate soul spends until monday morning in our cells as there is no court available until that time.

Whose side are they on ??

I work for the bad guys (that’s the defence, not the courts!). In our area we have the same problem but it’s because the private company dealing with the cells won’t take people unless they’ve been processed by the police (some lame health and safety excuses given). It is possible therefore to take em direct to the dock but not unfortunately through custody. Another triumph of privatisation there then.

Oh and I should take the time and trouble to comment on what anon says above…. but is it really worth explaining all the extra work involved…

On another matter the court in our town is brand new with the very latest equipment and plush cell complex.
They have as many cells as we do in our prehistoric custody unit.
They close at night with all their cells remaining empty.
Our are normally full up by 10pm on a weekend and we have to travel across the force area with prisoners when we could be back on the streets instead of taking two officers per prisoner for transport.

Big Fella’, I really hate it when I don’t get the chance to execute a warrant until Saturday afternoon. Particularly on a bank holiday weekend. I really feel for the person whose life I have disrupted and want, in some small way, to make things up to them.

I do this by reassuring them that I’ll have a drink on them when I go out that night, and that I’ll dedicate one of my roast spuds from Sunday lunch to them.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t always help. But I will keep trying.

Oh, a defence solicitor has left a comment that mentions hard work.

Not letting the chance go to bait a ‘bad guy’, come on then, please explain your hard work for all of us cops.

I was going to say the court building looks rather new, clean and sparkly. Who can afford new courts ? What about new prisons ?
